Boaters across Melbourne’s west can look forward to smoother, safer access to the water, with a major upgrade to the Werribee South Boat Ramp set to get underway this week. 

The $3.2 million upgrade, which is being funded by the Victorian Government and delivered in partnership with Council, will significantly enhance the capacity and functionality of this much-loved boating hub, which services a large and growing community of recreational users accessing Port Phillip and Corio Bay.   

These works will deliver a seventh boat ramp lane to increase capacity, the extension and realignment of existing pontoons and all-abilities access. 

The project will also reconfigure the formal and informal parking areas to create more rigging and tie down spaces, while also improving traffic flow and congestion issues. 

This investment in the Werribee South boat ramp will ensure that the facility keeps pace with increasing demand and remains a safe, accessible and reliable gateway to some of Victoria’s most popular waterways. 

To safely complete this upgrade, the Werribee South Boat Ramp will be closed to the public from 3 August throughout the duration of works. The closest boat ramp options during this time are located at Altona, Avalon Beach and Newport. 

Work is expected to be completed in late 2026.
