Polyglot Takes Over Wyndham Art Gallery in the July School Holidays

Wyndham City invites families and children to come along to the Wyndham Art Gallery in Werribee City Centre during the winter school holidays with a huge new program of free activities from Polyglot Theatre.

Wyndham Art Gallery will transform into an energetic, hands-on creative playground from Tuesday 7 July until Sunday 12 July, from 10am to 4pm daily as internationally renowned Polyglot Theatre deliver two playful and immersive experiences designed especially for children and families.

Wyndham City’s Werribee Ward Councillor Mia Shaw said the free school holiday program would provide hands-on, family fun, where children get to take the lead and imagination leads the way.

“Featuring two of Polyglot Theatre’s most beloved participatory works; Paper Planet and Sound of Drawing, the Gallery will become a living, evolving artwork shaped by the creativity of its young participants” Cr Shaw said.

The free school holiday program is designed for a wide range of ages and abilities, making it easier for families to share in the fun together and celebrate the power of play, participation and imagination.” Cr Shaw said.

In Paper Planet, children become makers and world builders to construct a fantastical paper universe and collaborate to construct an ever-changing paper landscape surrounded by towering cardboard trees using simple materials like paper and sticky tape and imagination to build structures, creatures, and landscapes. The installation grows organically throughout the week, rewarding repeat visits as participants contribute to a strange and wonderful environment that transforms day by day.

In Sound of Drawing, every line, scribble and shape is transformed into a live, responsive soundscape. As children draw, their marks are translated into a live audio soundscape experience, creating a dynamic, collaborative artwork where creativity can be seen and heard.

The two free school holiday programs from Polyglot Theatre are suitable for children up to 12 years old and bookings are not required.

Families are encouraged to drop in at any time between 10am and 4pm between 7 July to 12 July and return as often as they wish to experience the evolving installations.

These school holidays families will also be able to enjoy a packed program at Wyndham Cultural Centre with the shows Room on a Broom and Wurrtoo: The Wombat Who Fell in Love With the Sky.
