Wyndham City is thrilled to announce the winners of the 2026 Wyndham Citizen and Young Citizen of the Year Awards.
These two awards recognise the outstanding contributions of two special Wyndham City residents who, through their hard work and dedication, have significantly contributed to the Wyndham community.
These individuals help make Wyndham a better place. They offer outstanding service each day and enable the Wyndham community to be stronger because of their extraordinary efforts.
Congratulations to Musarrat Jabin Saiyed, winner of the Wyndham Citizen of the Year 2026 and Umar Sheikh who won Wyndham Young Citizen of the Year 2026.
Wyndham Citizen of the Year 2026 - Musarrat Jabin Saiyed
Musarrat Saiyed is a dedicated community leader, whose compassion, integrity, and leadership have played a significant role in building a more connected, caring, and resilient Wyndham community.
Musarrat founded Pulse with Purpose, a not-for-profit organisation that delivers weekly community meals, food bank deliveries and emergency assistance for residents experiencing hardship.
Beyond food relief, Musarrat fosters intergenerational and intercultural connection, engaging volunteers of all ages and backgrounds to lead programs, workshops, and community activities.
Musarrat also contributes strategically through her participation on advisory committees, where she advocates for wellbeing, sustainability, and equitable access to essential resources.
Young Citizen of the Year 2026 - Umar Sheikh
Umar Sheikh has emerged as a highly respected young leader whose volunteer work has strengthened community connection and inclusion across Wyndham.
Umar contributes to a wide range of organisations, guided by strong values of equity, education, and social justice including Soulful Spreads, Building Cultural Connections Australia, and Wyndham for Palestine.
A strong advocate for accessible education, Umar also tutors disadvantaged students through Pulse with Purpose’s Study Circle and founded Squidz Tutoring, a low-cost tutoring service.
Umar consistently demonstrates empathy, resilience, and ethical leadership and his work has inspired others to volunteer, strengthened youth participation, and created more inclusive community spaces.
