“Stand up for our neighbours and community who need certainty and stability to rebuild their lives”.
Wyndham City have joined the Mayoral and Councillor Taskforce Supporting People Seeking Asylum, working with over 40 Councils across Australia to advocate to the Federal Government for fairness, compassion and dignity for people seeking asylum.
Since 2018, the Taskforce has coordinated joint advocacy by Australian local governments to the Federal Government about refugee policies and programs, which are negatively impacting people who are living in our local communities and seeking asylum.
Wyndham City is dedicated to raising awareness about the challenges faced by refugees and people seeking asylum, while fostering a culture of welcome, respect, and inclusion. We celebrate their valuable contributions and the richness they bring to the Wyndham community.
Join us in building a community that is inclusive, welcoming, and supportive of all. You can help make a difference by:
- Liking and following the campaign on social media: @backyourneighbour
- Sending a message of support.
- Partnering with us: Community organisations and local services are warmly invited to become campaign partners (free).

Refugee Week
As a Refugee Welcome Zone, Wyndham City acknowledges and celebrates Refugee Week each year with local activities and events.
Refugee Week promotes greater awareness of refugees, the issues they face, and the contributions refugees make to the Australian community.
Refugee Week in Australia is always held from Sunday to Saturday of the week which includes 20 June (World Refugee Day) with activities and events in around that period.
