Pets are cherished members of many families and depend on us for their wellbeing.
Wyndham is home to over 25,000 registered cats and dogs and many other pets.
Council is encouraging residents to ensure their pets receive regular veterinary care, adequate food and water, daily exercise, appropriate shelter and social interaction.
Caring for pets is an important responsibility that benefits both animals and the wider community.
Pet owners are encouraged to:
- Provide fresh water and nutritious food every day,
- Ensure pets have access to suitable shelter and protection from extreme weather,
- Maintain regular veterinary check-ups,
- Exercise dogs daily and provide mental stimulation for all pets,
- Ensure cats and dogs are properly identified and registered where required,
- Desex pets to help prevent unwanted litters,
- Monitor pets for signs of illness, injury or distress and seek veterinary care when needed.
Pet owners are being reminded responsible pet ownership is about providing a safe, caring environment for their pets.
Whether they are curled up on the couch, enjoying time in the backyard or joining their owners on daily walks, cats and dogs rely on their owners to provide the care and attention they need to live healthier, happier lives and reduces the likelihood of pets becoming lost, unwell or causing issues within the community.
Council also reminds owners that responsible pet ownership includes keeping dogs under effective control in public places, cleaning up after pets and ensuring cats and dogs do not roam freely.
