You and your neighbour are equally responsible for any fences that divide your properties.
If you need to repair, replace or build a new fence, you will need to talk to your neighbours.
For more information about fencing ownership and responsibility, see the Department of Justice and Community Safety website.
Request your neighbouring property’s details
If you do not know your neighbour, or do not have their contact details, you can request them for fencing purposes. To request this information, you must be the property owner, or have permission from the property owner.
