We’ve reached the next milestone in naming two new community centres under construction in Werribee and Truganina.

Following a public vote, Wyndham City has endorsed the names Lollypop Creek Community Centre for the centre located at 104 Shipwright Parade in Werribee, and Truganina Community Centre for the centre at 1 Everton Road in Truganina.

The names will now go to Geographic Names Victoria for formal gazettal and registration.

Wyndham City Mayor, Councillor Jennie Barrera, said these names had been selected by the community following an extensive community engagement process.

“In June this year, we asked the community to pick from one of four themes – Traditional Owner recognition, gender equality, linking the name to a place, or commemoration – to guide the name selection for these centres,” Cr Barrera said.

“In both instances, the community indicated a preference for names that aligned with the location of each community centre.”

“We then asked the community to vote on their preferred name for each centre, and Lollypop Creek Community Centre and Truganina Community Centre were the clear winners.”

“Opening in 2024, these two centres will improve access to high quality early childhood services and host community programs, events and activities for our growing population.”

“The centres will also provide much-needed kindergarten places to Werribee and Truganina families from 2025.”

Both projects have been supported by the Victorian Government, including $3.8 million in grants towards the $13.7 million Lollypop Creek Community Centre, and $7.9 million towards the $18.4 million Truganina Community Centre.
