Tapestry of Culture – Eco Printing with Eucalyptus

Come along and create your own textile art using eucalyptus and wool. Guided by textile artist Becc Edwards, you will learn how to use locally sourced plants to create a beautiful print on fabric. We will be using fresh gum leaves to naturally dye a piece of wool fabric that you can take home.

Using plants to create prints on fabric is a technique that has been used in many different cultures - from Leonardo Da Vinci using sage leaves during the Renaissance, to First Nations peoples using eucalyptus for bush dyeing.

About the Artist

Becc Edwards is a multidisciplinary artist based in Meanjin (Brisbane). Being an animal lover, native flora and fauna has always been the main inspiration for Becc’s work. While studying at LCI Melbourne, Becc discovered the joy of eco printing and has made the art a large part of her practice. She uses gum leaves found by her home to create textile works that raise awareness about endangered animals.
