You may need an planning permit from Council's Town Planning.

Building Approval
I am planning to:

You may need a building permit.

A building inspector will need to make sure that your building is safe and up to code. Ensure not to commence any work without checking first with our Building team.

Local Laws
I am planning to:

You will need a permit from Council’s Local Laws.

Where items are placed on public spaces, Council lands, or facilities, and the use may be influenced by local conditions, then all activities must operate within the boundaries that are determined by the permit issued by Council's Local Laws. You must not start trading before the permit is issued.

Food Business
I am planning to:

You will need a registration with Council’s Environmental Health.

Operating a food business requires a Food Act 1984 registration and inspection from an Environmental Health Officer. You cannot start operating or selling food without this.

Beauty Business
I am planning to:

You will need a registration with Council’s Environmental Health.

Conducting a personal care or body art business requires a registration and inspection from Council’s Environmental Health Officer. You cannot start operating your beauty business without this.

Prescribed accommodation businesses, including motels or bed and breakfasts, if the premises accommodate 6 or more guests in accordance with the Public Health and Wellbeing Act 2008, must register their premises with Council, with inspection by Council's Environmental Health Officer.

What Permits Do I Need?

In any case, if you are starting a new business, or changing the services of the existing business, you will need to discuss with our Town Planner who can advise if you will need a planning permit.

If you are making structural alterations to the premises, or you are starting a hospitality business which caters for more than 20 patrons, you may need a building permit.

If your business is to provide food, beauty, health, personal care, body-art or accommodation services, you will need a registration with the Environmental Health

If your business will use public spaces, Council land, or facilities, you will need a permit from Local Laws.
