Wyndham City is proud to announce Gemelia Osman as the One Wyndham recipient for November.
Gem is a positive young role model; she is caring and compassionate and leads by example to encourage and foster inclusion and a sense of community and care in Wyndham.
Gem volunteers with a children’s charity, organising, sorting and appraising donations of clothing, toys, and essential items. Gem is committed to ensuring that children receive support with dignity. She prepares and distributes essential items for families in need.
Gem currently tutors and mentors local primary school students in Grades 3 and 5 and helps them academically and emotionally and also teaches English on Saturday mornings. She plans lessons, marks homework, and helps students build confidence in their studies.
Gem is a Western Chances scholarship recipient, which helps support her academic studies.
Gem’s personal experience in foster care has given her a unique ability to connect not only with vulnerable children, but also people from different backgrounds in our community. Her work and compassion is shaped by her family's fostering experience, which inspires her to support other children, giving them love, support and care.
Gem hopes to continue supporting children and families, just as she was supported growing up and wants to share the love and care she was given as a child and make the world a little better for everyone.
Wyndham City Mayor, Cr Mia Shaw, said “Gem is a wonderful and inspiring role model. Her achievements reflect a balance of community service, academic excellence, and personal growth.”
“Wyndham City thanks Gem for her compassion and her contribution volunteering and helping vulnerable children in the Wyndham community.”
One Wyndham recipients are residents aged between 12 to 25 who positively contribute to the Wyndham community and are role models to other young people.
Each month Council selects a Wyndham resident to be awarded the ‘Young Person of the Month’.
Winners are awarded a $300 gift voucher of their choice and other prizes.
