Wyndham City is investing millions of dollars to revitalise the Werribee City Centre – the Heart of Wyndham – transforming it into a vibrant, accessible and future-ready destination for the whole community.

Wyndham City will deliver a range of upgrades, events and initiatives aimed to transform the City Centre into a vibrant, accessible and future-ready destination designed to attract visitors, support local businesses, create jobs and enhance liveability for residents.

Wyndham City Mayor, Cr Mia Shaw, said the revitalisation plan would build on Werribee’s unique heritage while preparing it for the future.

“Werribee City Centre is the civic, cultural and business heart of our municipality,” Cr Shaw said.

“This plan brings together multiple projects and investments that will create greener streets, vibrant community spaces, exciting events and improved facilities – all designed to make Werribee a thriving hub for residents, visitors and businesses.”

The plan focuses on five key streams:

Community Spaces: Transforming the former Shire Offices into a flexible, modern community hub while preserving Werribee’s civic heritage.

Streetscapes and Beautification: Upgrading pavements, planting trees, improving pedestrian access and installing new street furniture to create a more attractive, people-friendly precinct.

Entertainment and Recreation: Activating the City Centre with a vibrant year-round calendar of events, from seasonal pop-ups and festivals to major sporting attractions.

Wyndham Cultural Centre and Art Gallery: Upgrading facilities to better support local artists, host touring exhibitions and enhance access to arts and cultural programming.

Business Growth: Driving economic activity by supporting local traders, encouraging new business investment and promoting job creation.

Cr Shaw said the plan would help tell the “bigger story” of Council’s investment in Werribee.

“Each of these projects will improve the City Centre in its own way, but together they will transform it into a place people want to spend time – whether it’s shopping, dining, attending events or simply enjoying the public spaces,” she said.

The revitalisation works will also enhance Werribee’s strong cultural and economic identity, building on much-loved assets such as the Wyndham Cultural Centre, the Palais Theatre, Chirnside Park and the Werribee sporting precinct.

“We’ll keep the community informed as individual projects progress,” Cr Shaw said.
