Council has endorsed a $5million WYNLocal Economic Support Package to address the impacts of COVID-19 on the community. There are three main components to the package and further details will be made available in the coming days and as we work through the detail.
A $1.5million Small Business Support Program will be available for small business subject to eligibility and distribution of available funds. Details including the timing of this program will be released soon. The rapidly changing landscape, including the ongoing release of State and Government stimulus initiatives; and the capacity for local small businesses to access support through those programs will be considered prior to announcing full details of the WynLocal Program. Business Fees & Charges Relief
Council will provide relief in respect to fees and charges applied to businesses in Wyndham which are:
- Food premises
- Temporary food premises including mobile food vans with the registered place of trading a Wyndham City address
- Public Health and Wellbeing Premises including hairdressers, beauty and tattooists
- Businesses with footpath furniture including advertising signage and displays
Home based businesses and community organisations including sporting clubs will also be provided relief under this program.
The relief will be by way of a six month waiver or refund based on a commencement date of 1 March 2020. Fees paid in advance will be refunded pro-rat up to the date of the next payment period.
There is no requirement for eligible businesses to make an application. A member of the relevant Council department will be in direct contact with businesses to advise next steps particular to individual circumstances.
Rates Deferral Scheme– Wyndham City will defer council rates for businesses that fall within the category of commercial, industrial or farming and to benefit those businesses most in need. There will also be interest charge relief for 6 months to be applied from February 2020 for rates that are outstanding for the 2019/20 financial year and will be reviewed at the end of the six-month period.
Economic Strengthening and Community Development – this program will include relief for households for fees such as dog registration and how we can work with this the community and business to keep local jobs.
