Welcome Kids! Let’s celebrate the wonder and joy of Book Week!

The Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) has been running Book Week since 1945! It’s a celebration of books and Australian children's authors and illustrators.

The 2020 CBCA Book Week takes place from 17-23 October and the theme is Curious Creatures, Wild Minds.

Join in our free online Drawing Workshop with Renee Treml, Story Time at Werribee Zoo and our 7 Day Challenge of book-themed activities including a scavenger hunt, quiz, dress-up craft and more.

Plus explore a range of free printable activities, eBook recommendations, Story Box Library activities and discover the 2020 CBCA Book of the Year Awards.

7 Day Challenge

Get into the spirit of Book Week with our 7 Day Challenge of book-themed activities including a scavenger hunt, quiz, dress-up craft and more.  Let your imagination go wild!

Drawing Workshop

Celebrate Book Week and use your wild mind to draw your own curious creatures and make your own stories.  Join author and illustrator Renee Treml for a special free online drawing workshop on Sunday 18 October at 2pm.

Have you ever wanted to make your own graphic novel or illustrated story? Renee will show you how it is done, drawing on her experience writing and illustrating graphic novels and picture books including Sherlock Bones and One Very Tired Wombat.

Registration for the event will be via Eventbrite and will open on Monday 5 October.

The lions at the Werribee Zoo wanted to celebrate Book Week with us!

2020 CBCA Picture Book Activities

Story Box Library is offering special activities relating to the 2020 CBCA Picture Books.
You can solve a mystery, get crafty, play games, be a book judge or go exploring in nature.

Each activity provides instructions and a QR code to access the relevant resources that you will need to complete the activity.

2020 CBCA Book Lists and Awards

Every year the CBCA hosts the Book of the Year Awards for Australian children's books published over the past year. The judges select books for the notable list, shortlist and winners, across six categories:

  • Older Readers
  • Younger Readers
  • Early Childhood
  • Picture Book of the Year
  • Eve Pownall Award
  • CBCA Award for New Illustrator

The 2020 Winners and Honours will be announced on Friday 16 October.
