If you would like to join a book club or wish to begin one, Wyndham Library Service can provide you with book kits specifically created for book clubs.
Book Club Kits
Wyndham Library Service currently has a collection of over 80 Book Club Kits that are available for loan to Book Clubs that join the library as Book Club Members.
Each Kit contains 8 copies of the same book in a book club library bag. Along with the books is a folder of information about the book. This includes reviews and discussion questions.
Book Club Kits may only be borrowed using a Book Club membership card. One card is issued per club. Kits cost $20 dollars to borrow and are loaned out for a period of 6 weeks. If a kit is returned late or a book is lost, standard charges apply.
Joining a Book Club
If you would like to become a member of a book club you fill out an expression of interest form and a staff member from our Adults Programs and Services Team will contact you within a week. They will discuss your reading preferences and availabilities and arrange to place you in a Book Club that best suits you.
Starting a Book Club
If you have a group of friends that would like to start a Book Club, let our Adult Programs and Services team know and they can assist you in setting up your Book Club. One person in your Book Club needs to volunteer as the Coordinator. The Coordinator liaises with library staff in the setting up and administration of the Book Club.
Picking a Book Kit to Read
Book Clubs should work through the list together to decide which titles you would like to read. Ideally, make your selection as wide as possible so that the Coordinator is more likely to find a Kit that is available for borrowing.
To borrow a Book Club Kit a request must be placed via the library catalogue. The kit will then be delivered to the Wyndham City Libraries branch you have nominated. It is advisable to request a Kit that is not currently checked out or that has a prior request on it, so that the Book Club Kit arrives in time for your meeting.
Checking Out and Checking In
Book Club Kits can only be borrowed using a Book Club membership card. You can be notified via SMS, e-mail or a letter in the mail when the Book Club Kit you have requested is available for collection at your nominated branch. A staff member will need to assist you to check out and check in the kits. Payment for the kit must be made at the time of borrowing. Book Kits are on loan for 6 weeks and are unable to be renewed.
Requesting New Book Kits
Book Club members are encouraged to suggest new titles. To do this please fill out a purchase suggestion or talk to a library staff member about your desired title.
