Wyndham City undertakes an annual Controlled Burn Program during autumn and spring.
Weather permitting, controlled burns will commence between Monday 3 April 2017 and Wednesday 31 May 2017. Some controlled burns may be postponed due to various factors.
- Cobbledicks Reserve – 2 areas adjacent to Cobbledicks Ford Road.
- Mouyong Reserve – 4 areas
- Malcolm Williams Reserve – 3 areas
- Gleesons Reserve – 1 area
- McPhersons Reserve – 2 areas
- West Road (roadside reserve) – 1 area.
Wyndham City runs Controlled burns to maintain the health of plants and ecosystems that need fire.
Controlled burns are also used to reduce fuel for potential bushfires. Reduced fuel makes it easier for fire-fighters to control a bushfire.
Wyndham City’s Conservation Unit conducts controlled burns in autumn and spring using internal staff (Fire Management Team) or external providers. Once an area has been assessed as needing burning, a Burn Plan is then developed and a Burn Prescription generated. A Burn Procedure comprises of three parts Preparation Procedure, Operational Procedure and Black-Out Procedure.
Residents are advised to avoid the burn areas, close windows and turn off air conditioners.
