Transporting Arts Program: Wyndham Vale Station Expression Of Interest

The Department of Transport, in partnership with V/Line and Wyndham City Council, are inviting expressions of interest from artists who live or work in, or have a strong connection to Victoria to have their artwork displayed at Wyndham Vale Station.

The Transporting Arts program has been developed to improve passenger and community experience, as well as to provide an opportunity to showcase local and Indigenous artists.

First peoples and Artists of Colour are strongly encouraged to apply.

Project Objectives

  • The proposed artwork will be installed on the overhead façade of the Wyndham Vale Station entrance foyer, adjacent to Academy Way. The façade is approx. 10m x 1.2m. The site location, measurements and further details can be found in the attached guidelines/FAQ document.
  • To improve passenger and community experience across transport hubs
  • To showcase local and First Nation’s artists
  • To provide artists with an opportunity to extend their practice or body of work into the public realm in a supported commission

There is an artist’s fee for the artwork design of $2,000 where the majority of the artwork exists and requires only limited design or development to meet the install print specifications.

The artist is not responsible for installation or production costs and the installation fees which will be managed by PTV / V Line.

Examples of submissions Council are expecting:

  • Submissions should add positively to the public space of transport in Victoria
  • Submissions should reflect the history, community, and unique qualities of the local area.
  • The artwork does not need to be new work, it can be existing artwork revised to fit the space

Applications will be assessed against the following key assessment criteria:

  • Meeting project eligibility requirements
  • Alignment with project objectives
  • Previous projects of relevance and significance
  • Demonstration of capacity for delivery of the proposed work

Responsibilities of successful applicants

  • Provide initial concept for approval by Transporting Arts Working Group and Wyndham City Council
  • Provide final artwork /designs based on material specifications to a print ready file
  • Liaise with Council on key project and site requirements and concept development
  • Work collaboratively with Council and contractor on install if required Artist Public Liability ($10,000,000) and Professional Indemnity ($20,000,000) insurance – condition of acceptance
  • Job Safety Analysis (JSA) or Safe Working Method (SWMS) document provided by Artist/contractor for installation
  • CovidSafe Plan provided by Artist/contractor for installation
  • Defect guarantee provided by Artist/contractor for installation
  • The artwork will need to be completed by 30 September 2022
