LOCAL

The LOCAL TIME Creative Residency Studios are located within Wyndham City’s community Centres across the municipality.

In LOCAL TIME, the community centre environment puts forward the proposition that art may possibly be the conduit that links all aspects of life. This creative residency program is especially suitable for artists that are looking to expand their socially engaged practice or are interested to test an idea that involves community engagement. The artists who undertake the residency will be able to interact with the various community groups using the shared spaces of the community centres. In this sense the community centre, its user groups, its history, and regular happenings become the raw materials with which to make art.

In LOCAL TIME art is placed within a context where it may perhaps become a seamless event, merging with the everyday, yet remarkable for the artists unique and distinct practice.

Each LOCAL TIME Creative Residency will be for a period of 10 weeks. A payment of up to $8000.00 + GST will be made to the selected artists/arts collectives inclusive of all expenses. There will be up to 6 residencies awarded in a year. The EOIs for these residencies will be advertised via our newsletter and through our online channels twice a year.

The next round will open in February 2023.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Can I apply for LOCAL TIME and other Wyndham Arts Opportunities simultaneously?

A. Yes, you may apply for more than one Wyndham Arts opportunity at the same time. The proposals that have the best chance of success demonstrate clear and feasible intentions for the selected space/s. We therefore encourage you to visit the space before applying and to discuss your application with an Arts Officer if you're unsure.

Q. I do not have a concept which I’d like to test or develop. Can I still apply?

A. No, the residency is for artists to expand their socially engaged practice or for those who are interested to test an idea that involves community engagement. Although an outcome is not compulsory, it is recommended that in the EOI you include a concept that you want to test/expand.

Q. I am not a visual artist. Can I still apply?

A. Yes. We encourage artists with all kinds of practices to apply. It doesn’t matter if you are a writer, choreographer, performer, painter, photographer, or all of the above, if your practice has a community engagement focus, this residency will suit you.

Q. I'm part of a collective. Can I still apply?

A. Yes, you can still apply. The funding of $8000.00 would remain the same. In the application, include details of the collective and how you are going to remunerate all the artists involved.

Selection Criteria

We anticipate that the EOI round will be highly competitive. Each application will be carefully considered and reviewed by an independent selection panel outside of the Wyndham City Arts and Culture staff.

Each exhibition proposal will be considered against the following selection criteria:

  • Proposals that demonstrate artistic, conceptual, and technical merit.
  • Proposals that demonstrate a consideration of the local area, audience, history, or community and have a strong focus on community engagement.
  • Appropriateness of works and/or proposal to the residency space/s nominated and the overall feasibility of the proposal to be delivered.

Please note: Residency proposals must outlay the concept which the artist would test and develop during the residency.
