Wyndham City is taking the exciting step of creating greener transport options with three electric vehicle charging stations now operational across Wyndham.

The public charging stations are located at:

Wyndham Civic Centre rear car park

45 Princes Highway, Werribee

Charging station features two 50kW Tritium DC fast chargers that can charge up to four cars simultaneously and can be used for up to two hours, delivering up to 450km of driving

Hunter Building car park, ground floor

22 Synnot Street, Werribee

Charging station features 22kW Public Destination Chargers (ChargeMate) that can deliver up to 130km of driving range per hour of charge on average.

Bembit Bag-rook Community Centre car park

61 Polly Parade, Tarneit

Charging station features one 50kW Tritium RTM fast charger servicing two car parking bays that can deliver up to 400km of driving range per hour of charge

The Werribee chargers were installed as part of State Government’s Destination Charging Across Victoria program.

Why is Council installing electric vehicle chargers?

These charging stations are part of Wyndham City Council’s plan to promote the uptake of electric vehicles and support the transition to a zero-emission transport sector. It also addresses the significant shortfall of public charging stations in Melbourne’s west and allows Wyndham’s current and future electric vehicle owners to travel in their community without experiencing range anxiety.

Council will continue to investigate further opportunities for electric charging infrastructure provision to support our transition to a zero-emission community.

What are the benefits of electric vehicles?

There are several benefits of electric vehicles:

  • Economic – Electric vehicle owners may realise operational cost savings from greater engine efficiency and a reduction in fuel and maintenance costs
  • Environment – Electric vehicles have zero greenhouse gas emissions when they are powered by 100% renewable energy
  • Public Health – Electric vehicles improves air quality and amenity through reduced air and noise pollution (electric vehicles have no tailpipe emissions and emits minimal noise)

Is the charger powered by renewable energy?

Yes, along with all of Council’s electricity use, the charging stations are powered by 100% renewable energy.
