Wyndham roads might be a little quieter than usual while everyone self isolates, but Wyndham City’s $11 million local roads program is moving at a cracking pace.
Work to resurface roads and improve drainage has recently been completed along Thames Boulevard (from Brentwood Drive to Esquire Place) in Tarneit, Sawley Grove in Wyndham Vale, Chervil Street in Tarneit and Hepburn Street, Tarneit, giving locals a smoother and safer drive.
Wyndham City Mayor and Growth and Transport portfolio holder Cr Josh Gilligan said improving local roads was one of Council’s key priorities.
“These road upgrades are all about making our roads safer for drivers and getting people home to their families sooner,” Cr Gilligan said.
Meanwhile, Hoppers Crossing’s Dunk Court and Whitsunday Drive (between Barrow Court and Gabo Street) are also undergoing resurfacing and drainage works, which are on track for completion in June, while work has begun on a full road reconstruction at Ashridge Court, Wyndham Vale.
The suite of works is part of Wyndham City’s $11 million program to reconstruct and resurface local roads over the 2019/20 financial year.
This is in addition to Council’s larger-scale road projects, including the recently completed $4 million widening of Hacketts Road.
Cr Gilligan said it was essential our local roads were regularly assessed and maintained to keep Wyndham moving safely.
“We have already received positive feedback from residents about the Thames Boulevard reconstruction, and I’m sure there will be similar responses when the next round of works is complete,” Cr Gilligan said.
Wyndham City is responsible for upgrading and maintaining neighbourhood roads, while the State Government is responsible for delivering major roads, including highways.
