Wyndham City has welcomed the arrival of two new electric zero-turn mowers that produce zero emissions and are cheaper to run than traditional petrol mowers.

The two Ecoteq EVO ZTR Mowers were put to work for the first time earlier this month, with the larger 35-kilowatt mower to service Wyndham’s larger assets – such as Wyndham Park – and a smaller 22-kilowatt mower to be used City-wide.

The mowers produce zero emissions, with one electric zero-turn mower equivalent to taking 140 cars off the road each year.

Wyndham City’s Climate Futures and Environment Portfolio holder Cr Robert Szatkowski said this investment marked yet another step forward in Council's efforts to achieve net-zero emissions by 2023.

“Wyndham City is proud to be leading the way in environmentally sustainable practices, and the addition of these new electric zero-turn mowers to our fleet allows us to maintain our open spaces while reducing our greenhouse gas emissions,” Cr Szatkowski said.

“Over a typical four-year lifespan, electric mowers are cheaper than traditional petrol mowers because they require no fuel and less maintenance.”

“This means that Wyndham City will not only be reducing its carbon footprint but also saving money in the long term.”

“They also reduce noise pollution by up to 50 per cent, meaning they can be operated without hearing protection.”
