Wyndham City Council has awarded a tender for the construction of a new community centre in Truganina.
Construction of the $18.4 million community centre will begin next month and is expected to be completed in early 2024.
The Centre will provide the community access to a wide range of community services in a safe, welcoming, and sustainable facility. As a major asset for the City, this facility will be designed and constructed sustainably to be carbon neutral in operation and all-electric, targeting a 5-star Green Star rating.
Residents will enjoy accessing vital services locally like three and four-year-old kindergarten, maternal and child health, allied health and youth services.
The Centre will host community programs, events and activities and provide opportunities for residents to meet and connect, participate in community life and access local services, programs and information.
The Truganina Community Centre will also feature a Library Lounge offering a collection of items residents can borrow and access to technology and quiet space.
Wyndham City Mayor Cr Peter Maynard said: “The new Truganina Community Centre will support our residents to learn skills, create new projects and connect with their neighbours and Wyndham City services.”
“This centre will be a place where our residents can stay active in their community and share their resources, so everyone gets help to live their best lives.”
The Truganina Community Centre is supported by the Victorian Government with $4 million from the Growing Suburbs Fund, $3 million from a Building Blocks Grant and $921,000 from the Living Libraries Infrastructure Program.
Truganina is a rapidly growing area in Wyndham City with a forecasted population of 40,786 residents in 2022. An additional 12,017 residents are expected to live in Truganina by 2041, a 29% increase in the local population.
Welcoming City Portfolio holder, Cr Jennie Barrera said: “Wyndham City community centres are a network of connection, opportunity and care for our residents.”
“We are pleased to be delivering new community centres in high-growth areas to support these emerging communities.”
