May’s One Wyndham recipient, Syazwani Saifudin believes young people deserve the support they need to believe in themselves.
One Wyndham recipients are residents aged between 12 and 25 who positively contribute to the Wyndham community and are role models to other young people.
Each month Council selects a Wyndham resident to be awarded the ‘young person of the month’.
Winners are awarded a $200 gift voucher of their choice and other prizes.
May winner, Syazwani, is an advocate for building positive body image and empowering young people to believe in themselves and to “focus on what you can change and not what you can’t”.
“Many young people face challenges both within themselves and the outside world. Negative body image and self-perception can be debilitating and erode confidence and self-esteem. I want to change this and educate and promote positive self-body image and encourage confidence so that young people can live their best lives,” Syazwani said.
“My focus is to encourage, support and inspire young people to appreciate and value themselves.”
Wyndham Mayor Cr Adele Hegedich said: “Syazwani is actively involved in her school and has been an elected student representative since 2016, showing commitment through fundraising, volunteering and leading. She is a great role model for students and a great representative for Wyndham.”
Overcoming personal challenges, Syazwani was awarded a three-year scholarship and is dux of her year level, showing that with perseverance and resilience you can overcome challenges and create opportunities.
Cr Hegedich said Syazwani was making a positive difference in our community by volunteering at Clean Up days and helping out at the local Toy Library.
