Get ready to race the wind and take part in the Kite Flying Festival that will be held

Sunday 15 January at Hummingbird Reserve, Tarneit.

Festival goers will be able to enjoy the beauty of a sky filled with soaring and swooping kites.

They will also be able to take part in kite making workshops or purchase a kite for sale.

Kite flying is a traditional way to celebrate the Festival of Uttarayan in India, a festival that marks the changing of the seasons.

The day will be celebrated with cultural performances, dance workshops and DJs will spin a mix of western and Bollywood tracks to keep crowds entertained. Food and drinks will be available to be purchased on the day.

Wyndham City Mayor Cr Susan McIntyre said the event was part of the Meet me in Tarneit series, delivered by Wyndham City in partnership with the Victorian Government and the Tarneit Suburban Revitalisation Board.

“It will be a unique celebration,” she said.

“This Kite Flying Festival was inspired by requests from the local community, and we have a warm and vibrant community in Tarneit that enjoys celebrating together.”

Wyndham City’s Creative City portfolio holder, Councillor Marcel Mahfoud said:

“We’re pleased to incorporate the Kite Flying Festival as part of the successful Meet me in Tarneit series of events which is all about keeping residents connected, fit and the suburb looking inviting.”
