Wyndham City’s Domestic Animal Management Plan (DAMPlan) survey is now live and the community’s contribution will help guide the future direction of Council’s Animal Management service over the next four years.
Council is required under state law to prepare and implement a Domestic Animal Management Plan and renew it every four years.
The DAMPlan outlines the services, programs and policies the Council has established, or plans to establish, to address the administration of the Domestic Animals Act 1994 (Vic), and the management of dog and cat issues in the municipal area.
A few of the key items of the DAMPlan are:
- Promotion of responsible pet ownership
- Minimise the risk of attack by dogs on people and animals
- Encourage the registration and identification of dogs and cats
- Minimise the potential for dogs and cats to create nuisance.
Community Safety Portfolio Holder, Cr Susan McIntyre, said the aim of this DAMPlan is to support Council’s mission through the effective management of domestic animals within the City.
“Community input will help guide the future direction of Council’s Animal Management service over the next four years. Your input is very important and highly valued,” said Cr McIntyre
“There are over 28,000 existing dog and cat owners in Wyndham, and we know community safety and the safety of their pets is very important to them. We want to hear what they have to say about how we can support them in education about responsible pet ownership, help if a pet is lost and also keeping the community and surrounding wildlife safe.”
“Four years ago, we had nearly 1,000 people take part in the survey and we would like to beat that this time around. The great thing is you don’t have to be a pet owner to participate in the survey, we would like to hear from everyone and get their thoughts on how we can best support the pet owners of Wyndham.”
The survey is open for a six-week period and should take no longer than 5 minutes to complete and you will be required to register to participate.

For an easier way to access the survey we also have a QR code that will be available for the community.
