Wyndham City is proposing that the future of the City will have a greater diversity of housing well positioned near train stations to support the creation of job opportunities in these locations for the growing population.

These visions have been outlined in the recently-released Wyndham Urban Framework Plan, Emerging Options Paper, which Council is currently seeking feedback on.

Urban Futures portfolio holder Cr Intaj Khan said the plan to promote a variety of housing types near train stations and strategically-planned activity centres will create affordable places to live for a broader cross section of our community including single-income families and students.

“Right now, there is an abundance of three- and four-bedroom homes but we would like to see more two-bedroom and even single-bedroom properties built in key areas of the City,” Cr Khan said.

“We want to create an easily accessible community with a variety of businesses and facilities at our activity hubs.”

“One of the options in our Wyndham Urban Framework Plan, Emerging Options Paper, is the encouragement of a greater diversity of housing development near the railway stations.”

“The strategic location and diversity of residential housing will help ease congestion on our roads, and give those that live there easier travel options.”

“It will also support the use and investment into public transport and create vibrant business and living hubs.”

“Right now, most of our town centres focus on retail, but for the activity hubs to thrive, they must have a mix of residential dwellings, educational and training centres, health and wellbeing providers, arts and culture spaces.”

“In addition to this, Council wants to ensure there are enough leisure spaces to meet, play and exercise, so town squares, promenades and parks are essential to the development of vibrant activity centres in Wyndham.”
