You have two training options to upskill and have a stand-out job application:

Introduction to Horticulture and Land Management

Provided by AMES Australia (Pre-accredited training)

  • Start date of course: 2/3/2021
  • End date of course 1/4/2021
  • Total hours: 30 hours- Tuesday and Thursdays 5:30pm-7:30pm at Werribee AMES and 3 Saturdays 9:00 am- 12:00 pm at Werribee Park

This course is for you, if you want to build more confidence and understanding of:

  • Basic horticultural terms and their meanings
  • Workplace Safety and risk identification
  • Most common horticultural tools
  • Chemicals, herbicides and pesticides

Please Note: Due to COVIDsafe planning this course only has capacity for 14 students. Expressions of Interest will be referred to AMES Australia for enrolment and ONLY the first 14 enrolments will be able to participate in the course.

Horticulture and Land Management Skill Set

Provided by The Gordon. Course includes accredited units towards a Certificate II in Horticulture.

The Skill Set is delivered in Term 2 (April, May and June 2021) through 10 sessions over 10 weeks and includes five (5) subjects at Werribee Park. Classes will be on Wednesdays 10am – 2:00pm.  

Subjects were identified by employers as necessary entry-level requirements.  

Skill Set subjects are:  

  • Work Health Safety Processes 
  • Recognise Plants  
  • Undertake Propagation Activities  
  • Prepare and apply chemicals to control pests, weeds and diseases 
  • Transport, Handle and Store Chemicals

Missed the Industry Insights session but still interested in creating beautiful natural environments, growing safe and nutritional food and preserving land and our native habitat? No problem! We encourage anyone interested to complete the EOI forms above.

I’m interested in both trainings; can I enrol in them both?

Yes, we recommend you register in BOTH courses, so you increasingly build up your knowledge and skills-set.

I have finished one or two of the courses, so now how do I get a job in Horticulture and Land Management?

From April through to August 2021, course graduates will be supported to prepare for employment opportunities provided by a panel of employers looking for local talent to work in the Horticulture and Land Management industries.

Prospective employers include Parks Victoria, Wyndham City, Nature Links, All Green Nursery and local farms in Werribee South.

Graduates will also have the opportunity to continue their studies and complete a full qualification in Certificate II in Horticulture.
