Are you, or do you know somebody who is aged over 65 and is keen to get a little more active? Wyndham City wants to hear from you!

We’re seeking older residents to participate in the Active Ageing program – a new initiative that aims to get residents aged over 65 involved in physical activity.

The program is focussed around five key sports and activities. These include:

  • Walking groups
  • Aqua-exercise
  • Stationary cycling
  • Light strength training
  • Movement, balance and flexibility activities

To find out more about the Active Ageing Program, or to let us know about what kinds of activities you’d be interested in joining, head along to a free open day during Seniors Week.

Wyndham is currently home to around 20,000 residents aged over 65, and this figure is set to double over the next 10 years. That’s why we’re looking for new ways to engage them in a healthy and active lifestyle. Figures show that at present, only a quarter of Australians in this age group meet the required 30 minutes of physical activity per day.

Applications for the program are opening soon. For more information contact Julie Maloney, Active Ageing Project Officer, on 8734 5488 ext 2446 or via email at

This program is supported with a $112,000 grant from the Federal Government’s Move it Aus – Better Ageing Grant through Sport Australia.
