Upon completion of both interviews you will be offered a $30 voucher for Coles in appreciation of your participation in the project.
The project purpose and rationale
Together with Wyndham City Council, Deakin University are conducting a study to explore how Melbourne parents make choices about their residential location, and what their experiences are of raising children in their local neighbourhoods.
It is well established that residential location plays an important role in children’s health. Importantly, findings from this project will help inform the development of communities that both satisfy the residential needs and ideals of families, as well as assist them to raise healthy children.
Who can participate in the project?
If you are a parent who lives in Tarneit Gardens or Williams Landing or surrounding areas, and you have at least one child aged 0-5 years old, then we would love to hear from you!
What will participation in the project involve?
Participation in this project will involve undertaking two interviews. These interviews will be conducted with the same researcher. The first interview will involve a survey to gather basic demographic and health information, and to explore your perceptions of your local area and your social networks. The second interview will be more conversational, in which you will have the opportunity to tell the researcher about your ideals, expectations and reasons for your residential choices, and your experiences of your local neighbourhood as a good place to raise a family.
Where will the interviews take place?
The interviews will run for approximately one hour each. The first one will take place at a time and location that is convenient for both you and the researcher (in a child friendly location, such as a playgroup room, local park, library, local café etc). Children are welcome. The second interview will be conducted over the phone at a time that suits you.
What are the benefits of this project?
Participating in this project will give you the opportunity to give feedback to your local council, about how supportive they are in helping you to raise your family. It will also provide Wyndham City Council with important information about the needs, ideals and expectations of parents living in their council area. This will help inform the development of your community as a place that supports you in raising a healthy family.
