Water Conservation

Whilst recent months have seen above average rainfalls, this trend is not expected to continue under climate change. Extreme weather events, including severe drought, are, however, expected to rise. With Wyndham located in one of the lowest rainfall areas across the Greater Melbourne region (see link to Rainfall Map below), ‘one drink every 20 years’ is not enough to ensure river health and water security.

Water restrictions were introduced across metropolitan Melbourne in November 2002 in response to the drought and Victoria’s severely diminished water reserves. To find out about the current restrictions on water use in Wyndham, visit the City West Water website

As awareness about the need for water conservation has increased, there have been many great initiatives undertaken by all sectors of the community including government, business, and residents.  Examples of the activities undertaken by Wyndham City are listed on the Wyndham City Water Action Plan. You can also visit our Rebates & Assistance page to find out about initiatives to help you save water at home.
