Wyndham City is committed to achieving long term environmental sustainability.  This means taking steps to protect and enhance Wyndham’s natural assets, as well as taking responsibility for the municipality’s broader environmental footprint, which includes reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Through ICLEI’s – Local Government for Sustainability Cities for Climate Protection (CCP) program, Wyndham City put this commitment into action, adopting the following emission reduction goals:

To reduce Wyndham City's own emissions by 10% below 2001 levels by 2010, and
To reduce per capita community emissions by 10% below 1996 levels by 2010.

Wyndham City’s recently adopted Environment and Sustainability Strategy 2011-2015 introduced a new target for corporate greenhouse gas emissions:

A 40% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2015, compared to 2001 levels.

This section provides information from recent energy audits required for the CCP program on the greenhouse gas emissions from both Wyndham City operations and the community of Wyndham as a whole (including the industrial and residential sectors).
