Off Lead Areas

The following areas have been designated as off lead, where pet owners are able to walk their dogs without a lead, 7 days a week, 24 hours a day (unless otherwise stated).

Werribee

  • Reserve on the north side of Bulban Rd, bordered by Flemington Cres.
  • Werribee River track from Chirnside Park to Maltby Bypass (including reserve between Dequin Crt & Hillrise Crt).
  • Easement along the Maltby Bypass (Princes Fwy) from the river to Duncans Rd.
  • Reserve along Geelong Rd / Princes Hwy between both entrances to Westleigh Dve.
  • Rear of the Civic Centre (45 Princes Hwy).
  • Floodway between Ballan Rd & Heaths Rd.
  • Reserve from the diversion weir to Redgum Close (east of the river bank).

Wyndham Vale

  • Presidents Park from the dog obedience building east to the riverbank & north to the parks boundary.

Hoppers Crossing

  • Drainage reserve from Hogans Rd (near Mossfiel Dve) through to Sayers Rd.
  • Cambridge Reserve between Heaths Rd & the rear of Sutton Close (off lead except from 8am - 9.30am & 3pm - 4.30pm, Monday - Friday).
  • D1 Drainage Reserve between Derrimut Rd & Willmott Dve (off lead except from 8am - 9.30am & 3pm - 4.30pm, Monday - Friday).

Werribee South

  • Foreshore from the jet ski ramp east to the start of Cunninghams Rd.

Point Cook

  • Reserve on the north side of Skeleton Creek from the Princes Hwy, south to Wallace Ave.

Conditions of Use

When using the off lead areas, pet handlers must act responsibly and comply with a number of conditions to ensure the safety of the other users, their pets and the local wildlife and environment. The following conditions of use must be observed when using the off lead areas.

  • Handler must have a dog lead in their possession and put their dog back on lead when leaving the off lead area.
  • The dog’s registration tag must be on the dog or with the handler at all times.
  • Dogs must remain in visual and audible range of their handler to allow it to be effectively recalled at any time.
  • The handler must have a means to pick up / remove and dispose of dogs droppings.
  • When encountering others using the area, the dog must be recalled/restrained until both parties have moved on to a safe distance.
  • Dogs must not enter water habitats that contain wildlife or chase wildlife in these areas.
  • Dogs attracted to the motion of wheels must be controlled at all times.
  • All handlers must immediately comply with any directions given by an authorised officer.

An authorised officer may issue an Infringement or Prohibition Notice for a breach of any of the above conditions.

Dogs NOT Allowed Off Lead

The following dogs are NOT allowed to be off lead in off lead areas:

  • Dogs declared menacing / dangerous /restricted breed must not be allowed off lead, but may be walked on lead while muzzled.
  • Dogs that are aggressive to people or other dogs or are unsocialised and extremely excitable are advised not to be off lead.
  • Female dogs on heat are not to be walked in off lead areas.
