Legislative Services


Council's Legislative Services Unit is responsible for ensuring that State and Local Government regulations (Local Laws) are observed for the general benefit of the community

Some of the responsiblities cover Animal & Litter Control, Parking Enforcement, Land Management & Clearance, Disabled Permits.

Abandoned Vehicles
Abandoned vehicles may be towed and impounded with owners subject to penalty.
Animal Ownership

Building Litter
Local Law 3 - Protection of Council Assets and Control of Building Sites aims to protect Council assets like footpaths and kerbs from damage by building activities, controlling litter generated by building activities and making it a requirement to have sanitary facilities on building sites.
Consumption of liquor in public places
Under Local Law 14, a person must not (without first obtaining a permit) drink alcohol on a road, at a public place (unless a licensed premises) or in or on a stationary motor vehicle parked on a road or in a public place

Land owners must not allow their premises to be kept in a manner which is dangerous or likely to cause danger to health,life or property.
Litter
An on-the-spot fine can be issued to anyone found to be littering.
Moveable dwellings (Caravans on Private Property)
A permit is required for the placement and occupation of movable dwellings on private land
Naturestrip Landscape Guidelines
Traditionally, most nature strips have been turfed or grassed, however, the new policy allows some alternative landscape treatments. For further information, click here.
