An Overview of Family Violence in Wyndham

Family violence remains one of Wyndham’s major health and safety issues. Victoria Police crime statistics show that the number of reported incidents of family violence in Wyndham in 2005/06 was second highest in the Western Metropolitan region, second only to Brimbank (see www.police.gov.au).

According to the Victorian Family Violence Database Five-Year Report, produced by the Department of Justice, the number of incidents reported by police and the number of intervention orders applied for by victims, has increased in Wyndham between 1999 and 2004 (with fluctuations in between).

In the period between 1999 and 2004 the most common age ranges for victims of family violence were between 25-34 years and 35-44 years. The majority of perpetrators were between the age of 30 and 34 years.
