Road Safety

Road safety is a concern to all of us. As responsible citizens we need to think seriously about the consequences of our actions and to always be aware of other road users such as pedestrians, cyclists, and public transport users and other drivers.

Council will continue to develop road safety strategies that provide increasing effectiveness in making the road safer for everyone. Road safety education, training and publicity all have their role to play in achieving a reduction in the number of accidents on our roads.

The implementation of the Road Safety Strategy focuses on working in partnership with RoadSafe Community Road Safety Council, Victoria Police, VicRoads, schools and community groups.

The Strategy addresses a wide range of local safety issues for all road users, with particular emphasis on targeting road users most at risk. It aims to educate people, publicise and increase community awareness of safety issues, identify hazardous practices and physical locations, change people's behaviour and actions and practices.

Council is committed to addressing a wide range of issues:

  • Drink driving
  • Fatigue
  • Speeding
  • Seatbelt safety
  • Motorcycle Safety
  • Bicycle Safety
  • Pedestrian Safety
  • Safety Round schools
  • Fleet Safety
  • Young Drivers
