Temporary Food Permits including fetes, sausage sizzles and fundraisers.


You must apply for a temporary food permit if you are running an event where food is being prepared, sold or supplied to the public.  Many clubs, associations and charities are required to apply for such permit when operating an event such as sausage sizzle, fete stall or market. 

An “Event” is defined as 

  • Being held no more than once in a given month and less than 12 times per year.
  • Operating for no more than 1 day at as time (doesn’t operate on consecutive days).
  • Having no storage of food on site of the event between days of operation.

Information that needs to be supplied to Council at time of appliccation:

  • Completed application form and fee if applicable*.
  • Consent from private land owner if event is being held on private land however if it is on public land a permit from the Local Laws Department is required.
  • A copy of DHS Event Template (Food Safety Program) which will be implemented on the day.(pages 2 & 3)  The FSP will ensure food is prepared & handled in clean and hygienic conditions and appropriate food safety practices are being conducted.

* (Council provide fee exemptions for charities, non profit and community organisations.)

Note: Applications must be lodged 2 week prior to the event.
