The Community Support Fund (CSF) was set up to ensure that a proportion of Government revenue from electronic gaming machines in hotels is made available for worthwhile projects which will benefit the Victorian community. It is a significant source of funding for projects at both the local community and state wide level.
What will be considered for funding?
The CSF provides the opportunity to fund projects which often do not fit within existing government funding programs but which have the potential to improve the well being and lifestyle of the communities which they will serve. It aims to address specific needs within communities, particularly those experiencing social and economic disadvantage, by combining community and government resources to build community capability. The CSF will work with communities to develop positive outcomes which meet local needs.
The Fund was established through an Act of Parliament, the Gaming Machine Control Act 1991 and funds projects in the areas of:
-
gambling research;
-
preventing problem gambling and assisting problem gamblers;
-
drug education, treatment and rehabilitation;
-
financial counselling services and assisting families in crisis;
-
youth, sport or recreation programs;
-
community advancement;
-
arts and tourism.
