Wyndham City receives many requests for work experience.  It is not always possible to place all students who request a placement due to the high number of requests, the work load of departments, the availability of a staff member to supervise the student, or the availability of a work space.  Wyndham City endeavours to place as many students as it can.  Students must either live or go to school within the municipality of Wyndham to be eligible.

If you are a VCAL/University student or wish to become a volunteer please see ‘Other Work and Volunteer Placements' below.

How to organise a placement

The Work Experience Placement Table displays the placements available for each school term, commencing Term 2 2012.  This table will be updated on a regular basis to indicate places that are available/unavailable.

If the table indicates a place available, please complete the online Work Experience Request Form . The Human Resource (HR) team will receive your request via email.  Once the request is received, the HR team will endeavour to organise your placement.  You will receive an email to advise if your placement has been successful or unsuccessful.

In order to give each area enough time to prepare for your placement there is a ‘cut off’ date for work experience requests for each school term.  If you have not submitted your online request form by the due date, listed below, unfortunately your request will not be actioned.

Term 2: 16 April to 20 June – submit your request by Friday 16 March 2012

Term 3: 16 July to 21 September – submit your request by Friday 15 June 2012

Term 4: 8 October to 21 December – submit your request by Friday 7 September 2012

Please note: No further requests will be accepted after these dates.

Some of the most common requests received by Wyndham are:

Library Placements

Wyndham City currently operates 4 libraries throughout the municipality.  Requests for placements at the libraries are high and places are limited.

Kindergarten Placements

Wyndham City has kindergartens throughout the municipality and requests for placements are high.  Opening times for kindergartens vary as all kindergartens are not open five days per week.  A single one week placement is preferred as Wyndham would like to give as many students as possible the opportunity of a placement.

Child Care

Wyndham operates one Occasional Child Care Centre at the Hoppers Crossing Children’s Centre on Heaths Road.  Work experience placements are limited. All other Child Care Centre’s are privately run and enquiries are to be directed to those centre’s individually.

Other areas of Wyndham that students may be interested in are:

  • Parks and Gardens
  • Engineering
  • Town Planning
  • Environmental Services
  • Administration (places are limited)

Other Work and Volunteer Placements

Vacation, VET or VCAL Students

Where students need to complete a set amount of hours ranging from a few hours per week, one day per month or a one week block as part of the school curriculum, these requests are to be directed to the relevant department by contacting 9742 0777.

Tertiary students requiring course related placements e.g. kindergarten will be placed according to the requirements of the diploma/degree.

Volunteers

Wyndham has a Volunteer program. Volunteer placements are not accepted for people who are looking for experience in the hope of getting a job, but for members of the community who want to volunteer on an ongoing basis. For enquiries please contact the Volunteer Development Officer on 9742 0777 or visit Volunteers & Volunteering.

Duke of Edinburgh Award Placements

Wyndham does not organise these placements, although a list of community organisations that participants may approach for volunteer placements is available from Wyndham’s Volunteer Development Officer or this list can be found on our website. For further information visit the Duke of Edinburgh website.
