Latest Dwelling Approval Statistics
April 2012 Dwelling Approvals Report
Permits were issued for 192 new dwellings (including 36 units) in April. There has been an increase of 12 units from March’s count of 180, but compared to April 2012 there has been a decline of 105. The 12 month total has declined from 5,368 to 3,133, a fall of 58%. This month makes the lowest 12 month total since February 2009. However, the fall in approvals is showing signs of steadying with the three month total showing the highest total since January 2012, though partly due to being clear of the Christmas-New Year period.
The steadying of dwelling approvals being seen in Wyndham is in contrast to what has been seen with Victoria’s trend estimate for total numbers of dwelling approvals, which fell 1.5% in March, for the 17th consecutive month or reductions. The trend estimate for the number of private sector houses fell 1.8% in March and has fallen for 27 months. Trends for dwelling unit approvals by state can be viewed at the Australian Bureau of Statistics website.
