Wyndham City Investigates Plans For 2,000 New Homes For Point Cook West
Wyndham City is investigating its options to compel the State Government to provide infrastructure for a proposed 2,000 home development in Point Cook West.
At Monday night’s Ordinary Meeting of Council, a Notice of Motion was issued requesting a report on the history of the land, investigating what powers Wyndham City has to require the State Government to provide infrastructure.
The Growth Areas Authority (GAA), a State Government Agency, have recently prepared the Point Cook West Structure Plan, which covers the form of development in the 145 hectares of land between Hacketts Road, Snyedes Road and the Princes Freeway, formerly part of the Werribee Employment Precinct.
Truganina Ward Councillor and Deputy Mayor Glenn Goodfellow, who issued the Notice of Motion, said there was community concern over the pressure this would place on already stressed infrastructure and services.
“Point Cook residents will already be aware of some of the infrastructure issues including limited road access in and out of the suburb, as well as a major lack of bus services, and these problems will be exacerbated by this new development,” Cr Goodfellow said.
“While we welcome some aspects of the Structure Plan, including a new diamond interchange onto the freeway at Sneydes Road and a second crossing to the freeway through the extension of Dunnings Road, there is a lack of information surrounding both the timing and funding for these and other projects.”
“The State Government needs to step up and commit to funding these projects, as well as improving public transport networks in Point Cook and give clear timelines on when these projects will be undertaken.”
“I look forward to receiving the report on what options are available to Wyndham City to require the State Government to provide the necessary infrastructure before any housing is constructed. We welcome change and growth but with that comes the responsibility to fund the vital infrastructure needed to ensure our community is thriving.”
“I strongly urge the State Government to look at using the sale proceeds to provide this vital infrastructure for the area.”
“The Point Cook West Structure Plan is currently open for public comment and I would encourage residents to visit our website to view the document and put forward their opinions.”
