Wyndham City Pushes For Certainty Over Future Of Galvin Park

25.01.2012

Wyndham City is seeking urgent assurances from the State Government regarding the future of Galvin Park Secondary College.

Wyndham City passed a Notice of Motion at Monday night’s Ordinary Meeting of Council, seeking:

The school has recently fallen into such a state of disrepair that classes were abandoned in late 2011 – before the end of the school year.

Chaffey Ward Councillor Adele DeCrescenzo, who raised the Notice of Motion, said a letter would be sent to both the Premier and the State Education Minister.

“Following a recent visit to the College, I was appalled to find it in a state of complete disrepair and decay,” Cr DeCrescenzo said.

“With a leaking roof, substandard heating, water damaged equipment, soiled carpet,  and mould growing in certain buildings, the facilities at Galvin Park Secondary College was not the great place for learning it should be for our future citizens.”

“Wyndham’s children deserve a first rate education in a safe and healthy environment – not to have to fight tooth and nail to get repairs to a decaying building. While we understand works are currently being undertaken at the site, we would ask the Education Department to confirm that the school year will be starting as scheduled and students and teachers will not be further inconvenienced.”

“Galvin Park Secondary College provides education for the fastest growing municipality in the State and any plans to refurbish the facilities should be seen as long term, rather than a band aid solution.”

“We look forward to working with the State Government, parents, students and teachers at Galvin Park, to make the College a great place to learn.”
