Galvin Park - Soccer Is On!

25.01.2012

Wyndham City will spend over $2.6 million on improving soccer pitches at Galvin Park Reserve in Werribee.

The existing soccer pitch will be realigned, two pitches relocated and a new pitch added as part of the Galvin Park Masterplan.

The earthworks and turf installation will be done by Watpac, a team who are currently undertaking works at Saltwater Reserve and Innisfail Reserve in Point Cook.

Chaffey Ward Councillor Shane Bourke JP said soccer is the most popular team sport in the world and is played in over 200 countries.

“Soccer is popular in Wyndham and sport is very important for our community. It allows people to interact in a social setting, helps establish strong community networks, and promotes good health,” Cr Bourke said.

“The soccer pitches will be improved over the next two financial years and are expected to be ready by early 2013.”

“We have adjusted the original plans to ensure the retention of a significant tree in the area and will plant warm season grasses to reduce the amount of water required to keep the pitches in good playing condition.”

“Galvin Park is a great place to visit - it has a football/cricket ovals, turf wicket, synthetic cricket wicket, cricket practice nets, tennis courts, soccer pitches, fire training running track, pavilions, , netball courts, public toilets, . The playground is also about to be upgraded.  These works will help make it even better.”
