New Look For Civic Centre

25.01.2012

Wyndham City is continuing with the transformation of the Civic Centre grounds, with further works to begin next month.

The works are part of Stage 1 of the landscaping works at the Civic Centre, with earlier works including the planting of the median strip out the front of the building adjacent to the Princes Highway.

The $737,000 contract has been awarded to ULS Group, with works to include paving, installation of furniture, timber seating, decking, tree planting, instant turf and mulching.

Wyndham Mayor Cr Kim McAliney said the works would make the space much more interactive.

“At the moment, the space between the Civic Centre and the Functions Area is passive, with lawn and some planting,” Cr McAliney said.

“These works will transform this area to somewhere the community can interact with seating perfect for an outdoor meeting or a social lunch, with tree and flower planting to give the area a different look.  The existing Japanese garden will also be revamped to provide a calm and peaceful spot.”

“The Civic Centre is a great source of community pride for Wyndham residents.  We want residents to do more than just pay their rates or their animal registration when they visit by encouraging them to use the grounds and come to view master plans, have their say on policies and strategies and find out what’s going on in their City.”

“This project demonstrates Wyndham City’s commitment to improving the quality and maintenance of its parks and open space areas across the municipality and will result in an asset that residents can have great pride in.”

Works on the project are due to begin next month and be completed by mid year.
