Bollymob - The Bollywood Inspired Flashmob
Wyndham City and local Indian dance school, Rachana Natyalaya, will create a flash with a Bollywood inspired “flash mob”, called Bollymob, as part of the annual Weerama festival.
A flash mob is a spontaneous public act or performance by a large group of people, usually performed without any prior warning.
Iramoo Ward Councillor Cynthia Manson, who is a representative on the Art in Public Buildings and Places Advisory Group, said Bollymob is a community dance project that delivers on the commitments of the Wyndham City Community Arts Strategy.
“Bollymob will pop up unexpectedly at some stage during the Weerama festival,” said Cr Manson
“To get ready we are hosting four FREE community dance workshops at the Point Cook Community Learning Centre and the community are invited to get involved.”
“Dance is very popular in Wyndham and there are a lot of people with talent out there so come and join the Bollymob.”
“We are also hosting ‘teach the teacher’ classes for dance teachers who want to learn BOLLYMOB and then pass it on to their students.”
“We’re proud to partner with Weerama and to support this important community arts festival.”
Bollymob community dance workshops are free and will be held on Sunday 5th, 12th, 19th and 26th February 2012 from 12.30pm - 1.30pm at the Point Cook Community Learning Centre, 1-21 Cheetham St Point Cook.
Bollymob will happen at some time during the Weerama festival, which is held on the weekend of 3rd and 4th March 2012
Interested residents and dance teachers can contact Wyndham City’s Arts Officer, Bec Cole, on 8734 5468 or email bec.cole@wyndham.vic.gov.au for more details.
