Cr Kim McAliney Elected Mayor for 2011/12

02.12.2011

Wyndham Council has elected Cr Kim McAliney as Wyndham Mayor for the 2011/12 term.

Cr McAliney, who represents the Truganina Ward, also served as Mayor in 2007/08 and takes over from Iramoo Councillor John Menegazzo who was the 2010/11 Mayor.

Cr McAliney is a CPA qualified accountant and mother of two teenage boys.

Cr Glenn Goodfellow was elected as Deputy Mayor, taking over from Truganina Councillor, Bob Fairclough.

In her acceptance speech, Cr McAliney spoke of her continued focus on the need for infrastructure.

“My initial motivation to join Council was to lobby for improved rural roads – and while we have seen many of the former ‘goat tracks’ upgraded to arterial roads, there is still much to be done,” she said.

“With the City increasing by approximately 12,000 residents every year, our need for infrastructure continues and we can’t rest on our laurels. This Council has worked very hard to attract State and Federal Government funding and we have been successful for projects such as the Wedge Street Piazza, Wyndham Vale Community Learning Centre and the Arndell Park Community Centre – but we need much more. Attracting support for our many major projects will be a priority throughout my Mayoral term.”

“I would like to acknowledge our outgoing Mayor, Cr John Menegazzo who demonstrated a passion and drive to promote the City. Cr Menegazzo worked tirelessly to build relationships with the new State Government and I look forward to continuing this great work.”

“Addressing road safety issues in our City will be another focus for the next year – whether it is the condition of our roads and intersections such as Old Geelong Road and Forsyth Road, or driver education.”

“Increasing community engagement opportunities and partnerships with community groups, agencies and residents will also be a priority. We have so much to achieve and more effective results comes from working together.”

“I am extremely honoured to once again have the opportunity to serve as Mayor of this wonderful City and I thank my colleagues for their confidence in me and ongoing support.”
